C166 User's Guide The C166 Optimizing C Compiler is a complete implementation of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard for the C language. The C166 Compiler is not a universal C compiler adapted for the XC16x/C16x/ST10 target. It is a ground-up implementation, dedicated to generating extremely fast and compact code for the C16x microprocessor ( a 16-Bit microcontroller architecture from Infineon, formerly the semiconductor division of Siemens, in cooperation with ST Microelectronics. It was first released in 1993 ). The C166 Compiler provides you with the flexibility of programming in C and the code efficiency and speed of assembly language. The C166 Compiler generates programs using several different instruction sets: SAB80C166 instruction set, C167 instruction set and C167V2 or XC16x instruction set. Since it supports all these instruction sets, the Keil C166 Compiler is said to support the XC16x/C16x/ST10 architectures. You will find reference to these different instruction sets throughout this manual. Keil™, an ARM® Company, makes C compilers, macro assemblers, real-time kernels, debuggers, simulators, integrated environments, evaluation boards, and emulators for ARM7/ARM9/Cortex-M3, XC16x/C16x/ST10, 251, and 8051 MCU families.
