Perl 5 Internals By Simon Cozens. Copyright © 2001 by NetThink. Open Publications License 1.0. This is a three-hour course which provides a hands-on introduction to how the perl interpreter works internally, how to go about testing and fixing bugs in the interpreter, and what the internals are likely to look like in the future of Perl, Perl 6. The aim of this course is to give you not just an understanding of the workings of the perl interpreter, but also the means to investigate more about it, to analyze and solve bugs in the Perl core, and to take part in the Perl development process. On this course, it is assumed that you will: be able to program Perl to at least an "intermediate" level; have some familiarity with the C programming language; be able to use a compiler and, if necessary, symbolic debugger, without prompting. Knowledge of XS ( eXternal Subroutine ) is not required, but is beneficial.
