IP Calculator By Krischan Jodies. ipcalc is a tool that takes an IPv4 address ( 32 bit ) and netmask and calculates the IP class, the resulting broadcast, network, Cisco wildcard mask, and host range. By giving a second netmask, you can design subnets and supernets. It is also intended to be a teaching tool and presents the subnetting results as easy-to-understand binary values. In TCP/IP protocol suite, a computer's logical address is called an IP address. An IP address can include: a network ID number, identifying a network; a subnet ID number, identifying a subnet on the network; a host ID number, identifying the computer on the subnet. The size of the host partly depends on the size of the network. To accommodate different needs, several classes of networks have been defined. The netmask is the tool used to differentiate the IP address section identifying the network and the subnet from the section identifying the single host. IP Calculator is available for Linux OS, Windows OS ( it is a Perl program ) and as online utility.
