Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO Ok, this is a blog. But we are speaking about a very special blog. Do you know Google? Google is a web search engine. Or, better: Google is THE web search engine. Because Google Search is the most-used search engine on the World Wide Web, receiving several hundred million queries each day. Do you know SEO? SEO means: Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of optimizing a web page for high search engine rankings for a particular search term or set of search terms. Do you know Matt Cutts? He's currently the head of Google’s Webspam team. When speaking of search engines, spam is loosely defined as any technique used to give your web page(s) an unfair ranking advantage over other pages. I quote Mr Matt Cutts: "I’m one of several Googlers who answer questions online and sometimes for the press. I usually handle questions about webmasters or SEO, so in those areas I’m more likely to make sense and less likely to say something stupid. If I post something here that you find helpful as you build or manage your web presence, that’s wonderful. But when push comes to shove: This is my personal blog. The views expressed on these pages are mine alone and not those of my employer". To give you the whole picture, I also quote the DAVID SEGAL article: "Google promptly set up an interview with Matt Cutts, the head of the Webspam team at Google, and a man whose every speech, blog post and Twitter update is parsed like papal encyclicals by players in the search engine world". It is like looking for a needle in a haystack, it is true. But, at the end of the story, what actually is SEO? Good luck to everyone!
