Web Services Description Language (WSDL) 1.1 Web Services Description Language ( WSDL ) 1.1. W3C Note 15 March 2001. WSDL ( Web Services Description Language ) is an XML-based language for describing Web services and how to access them. WSDL is a document written in XML. It specifies the location of the service and the operations ( or methods ) the service exposes. For example, a WSDL port ( endpoint ) describes the interfaces ( legal operations ) exposed by a web service. It defines a web service, the operations that can be performed, and the messages ( format and data ) that are involved. A client program connecting to a Web service can read the WSDL file to determine what operations are available on the server.
