When the PC is powered up, the BIOS ( Basic Input/Output System ) is the first program that runs. The final task for the BIOS is to load the Master Boot Record in main memory: 446 bytes of executable code, 64 bytes reserved to partition table and the last two bytes reserved to so called Magic Number or master boot signature.
