Java OpenJDK OpenJDK is the new open-source Java community that Sun is seeding, the place to collaborate on an open-source implementation of the Java Platform, Standard Edition, and related projects. The primary goal of the JDK 6 project is to produce an open-source implementation of the Java SE 6 Platform ( Java Platform, Standard Edition ). The primary goal of the JDK 7 Project is to produce an open-source implementation of the next major revision of the Java SE Platform. The following components have been open sourced under GPL ( General Public License ) version 2 plus the Classpath Exception: Core, Networking, Security, Serviceability and Internationalization libraries; 2D graphics subsystem; AWT, the Abstract Windowing Toolkit; Swing GUI toolkit; Sound subsystem; Various tools, including JConsole and javadoc.
